Greeting:

Introductory Paragraph: Introduce yourself and state the purpose of your letter. State the job title you wish to apply for and how you learned about the position. There are instances where the ad you are replying to is “blind”, that is, the name of the company is not stated, but if you know it, this is the paragraph in which to mention it.

Central Paragraph(s): You will use this paragraph to state why you are looking for this particular kind of work and your reasons for choosing this company. Mention how you are qualified for the position, but don’t simply reiterate what is in your resume. Mention any specific skills, accomplishments, and training that are directly pertinent to the position you are applying for. You will spark more interest if you are able to add information about the company that you obtained from your research. Speak with confidence. Promote yourself.

Concluding Paragraph: Offer a summary of your credentials. Conclude your letter with a comment or question that is positive and will encourage the individual reading your letter to call you and schedule an interview. Remember, your ability to communicate is being evaluated by the person reviewing your letter, so be careful with your sentence structure and spelling.

Sincerely,
